Peterborough - July 11, 2014 - The Peterborough Petes are excited to announce that Jody Hull has been named Head Coach for Team Canada at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Under-18 Tournament to be held in Slovakia and the Czech Republic from August 11-16, 2014.

Hull was initially named an Assistant Coach for the team in June, but following the Texas Stars’ hiring of Derek Laxdal, Hull has been promoted to U-18 Head Coach. He was an Assistant Coach for Team Canada in the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship in Sochi, Russia, capturing the gold medal in a 3-2 win over Team USA. Hull also won gold medals with Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team at the 2011 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament, and as a member of the 1988 Canadian Junior Team.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to step into the role of Head Coach for the Ivan Hlinka Tournament,” said Hull. “It’ll be a challenge and I’m looking forward to it, and I wish Derek Laxdal success in his new position with the Stars.”

Hull has compiled a record of 50-42-0-3 in one and a half seasons behind the Petes bench, including coaching the team to an historic comeback series win in the 2014 Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals against Kingston. Drummondville Voltigeurs Head Coach Martin Raymond has been named the U-18 team’s other Assistant Coach.

Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team will gather in Calgary, Alta., for a selection camp August 2-5 at the Markin MacPhail Centre prior to selecting the team which will travel to Europe to compete in the 2014 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup. Petes defenceman Matt Spencer will attend camp, as will Peterborough native Mitchell Stephens of the Saginaw Spirit. Canada has won the annual summer tournament six years in a row and 16 of the last 18 years.

Team Canada will play preliminary round games in Group B with Slovakia, Sweden, and Switzerland. They kick off the tournament against Switzerland on Monday, August 11 at 8:00am EDT. The roster has yet to be determined, and more information can be found on Hockey Canada’s website.
