Wilkes-Barre Scranton - October 3, 2013 - It was announced earlier today that the WBS Penguins have signed forwards Carter Rowney and Cody Sylvester to two-way American Hockey League contracts. In addition, forward Mike Carman and from the Penguins past goaltender Jeff Deslauriers have each joined the team on a Professional Tryout Agreement.

Sylvester scored the overtime game-winner for the Penguins in their preseason victory over the Rochester Americans on Sept. 27. The 21-year old played five seasons from 2008-2013 with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League. In 68 games with the Hitmen last season, Sylvester lead the team in goals (41), assists (49) and points (90). He totaled 229 points (97G-132A) and 270 penalty minutes over 315 games with Calgary.

Rowney, 23, was a four-year letterman at the University of North Dakota, where he compiled 32 goals, 41 assists and 65 penalty minutes in 150 games. An assistant captain last season, Rowney helped the Fighting Sioux to two Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) championships in the three years. The native of Sexsmith, Alberta made his professional debut in March, dressing in four games for the Abbotsford Heat. Rowney appeared in three exhibition games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

A 29-year old from St-Jean-Richelieu, Quebec, Deslauriers was a member of the Penguins during the 2006-07 season, registering a 22-12-3 record and a .908 save percentage, along with career bests in shutouts (4) and goals against average (2.47).

A nine-year veteran, Deslauriers has skated in 193 AHL contests with Edmonton, Hamilton, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Springfield, Oklahoma City, Syracuse, Norfolk and Houston, compiling a record of 84-83-14, a 3.14 GAA and a .899 save percentage. He also played in 62 games in the NHL between the Edmonton Oilers and Anaheim Ducks.

Carman, 25, spent the 2012-13 season with the Hershey Bears, collecting four goals, six assists and 20 penalty minutes in 62 contests. A former third-round selection (81st overall) of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Carman has played in 201 AHL games with Lake Erie and Hershey, registering 47 points (25G-22A) and 130 PIM. Originally from Apple Valley, Minnesota, Carman played four years of collegiate hockey at the University of Minnesota.
