Wilkes-Barre Scranton - October 22, 2013 - Brian Gibbons no matter what you refer to him as, Gimmie Gimmie Gibbons from the old beer commercial or Man On Fire, he is blazing hot right now and helping his team to a great start to the season, and to a great OT win this afternoon.

Penguins took the ice this afternoon taking on the Manchester Monarchs up in Manchester some good action early in Jeff Deslauriers making some nice saves. Bobby Farnham fore-checking causes the Monarchs to take a holding penalty putting WBS Penguins on the power play. Manchester’s penalty kill is top notch should be a good test for WBS early in the game, and Brian Gibbons gives them a passing score 1-0 WBS.

Penguins get yet another chance to put points on the boards as Manchester takes another penalty but Kuhnhackl nullifies it taking a penalty creating a 4×4 situation then a short power play for Manchester neither side benefits.

At the end of one period it would be the WBS Penguins one the Manchester Monarchs one Manchester got a late power play chance that would carry over .65 to the second period.

WBS kills off the remainder of the carry over power play that Manchester had. Both squads getting some chances this period to get the go ahead goal but neither side getting the advantage, that is until half way through the period when Gibbons comes out of the box picks up a lose puck delivers it to Ebbett who shoots it in the net giving the WBS Penguins a 2-1 lead.

WBS would get back to back power plays later in the period but would not convert either one. At 18:14 LeBlond would go to the bin bringing on the WBS penalty kill for another late period kill. This penalty proves to be a lead killer for the Pens as the Monarch score making even at two. That’s where it ends after forty minutes of play both sides even up at two.

Things get going in the third frame about the same as the second but just over eight minutes in Brian “on fire” Gibbons puts one past Jean-Francois Berube to make it 3-2 Penguins and putting Gibbons on HTA.

Later in the third Nick Deslauriers beats Jeff Deslauriers to make it even again now at three. Just after the goal WBS Penguins give the Monarchs another late period power play something they did the last two periods and something Manchester has capitalized on, but this time WBS kills it nicely. That would be it for regulation ending at three all and heading for the First OT of the season for WBS.

Twenty two seconds in to OT Brian “man on fire ” Gibbons feeds Brendan Mickelson to beat Jean-Francois Berube with a shot in net to make it 4-3 giving the WBS Penguins the OT win and a perfect six points on the weekend.
