Medicine Hat - August 20, 2013 - Medicine Hat Tigers’ general manager and head coach Shaun Clouston announced Monday morning the team has signed David Quenneville to a WHL contract.

The Tigers selected Quenneville with their first pick and the 10th overall pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam draft held on May 2.

"We are very excited and honoured to have David and his family commit to our organization," stated Clouston. "David is an elite player who approaches the game with great passion and intensity. We look forward to his future as a Tiger.

David played the past two season for the South Side Athletic Club Lions in the Alberta Major Bantam League.

This past season, he put up impressive numbers scoring 34 goals and adding 38 assists for 72 points in only 32 games. David was a member of the 2011-12 SSAC Lions which captured the AMBL championship.

He was recently named to Team Alberta’s U16 short list for evaluation in preparation for the 2013 Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup being held in Calgary, Alberta, October 31st to November 3rd.

David also participated in the Allstate All-Canadians Mentorship Camp which ran August 2 to 6 at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga. The camp partners NHL players with 42 of the best bantam-aged hockey players from across Canada. The up-and-comers received first-hand instruction - both on and off the ice - about important foundational topics such as nutrition, strength and fitness, sports psychology, financial responsibility and personal values.

“I am extremely happy,” said David Quenneville. “It is something that I always wanted to do was to play in the WHL. This is the first step to playing in the league.”

The Tigers open training camp on Thursday evening with a rookie camp player/parent meeting at the Esplanade. The players will move onto the ice as of Friday morning.

All sessions will be held at the Family Leisure Centre and are open to the general public.
