Prince George - August 26, 2013 - Sunday night in Prince George, 40 of the top non-veteran players from Prince George Cougars training camp squared off in the first annual Rob Charney Cup.

Team Brewer came back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Team Bouck 4-3 in regulation time. Brad Morrison had two assists for Team Brewer while Jansen Harkins had two goals and an assist for Team Bouck.

Jansen Harkins got Team Bouck on the board early in the first period when he took a breakaway pass from Trevor Sundher, and beat Matt Kustra to the stick side. Moments later on a power play, Ben Sowa fired a shot from the point that found its way through traffic and in. Jansen Harkins and Tyler Mrkonjic assisted on the Sowa goal.

It was 2-0 Bouck after one period and the shot totals were 9-5 in favor of Bouck.

Early in the second, Jansen Harkins struck again. This time he forced a turnover in the neutral zone, and skated in alone on another breakaway. This time Harkins went to the backhand and snuck the puck through the legs of the goaltender for his third point of the game.

Team Brewer found some life offensively at around the mid-way point of the second period. Braedon Gurney finished off a sequence in front of the Bouck net with Brad Morrison and Aaron Boyd assisting.

A few shifts later, Zach Gonek let a shot go from the left point that found its way past Liam Giroux, and a 3-0 lead had quickly become 3-2.

After a fight-filled third, Team Brewer completed their comeback at the mid-way point of period three when Jonah Boston’s point shot beat Liam Giroux. 3-3 was the score with only a handful of minutes remaining.

Both teams had chances, but the game’s final goal came with about four minutes remaining. 1998-born forward Lane Zablocki pounced on a Jonah Boston rebound and fired the puck past a sprawling Giroux to give Team Brewer their first and only lead of the game.

Kye Steinke kept the door shut at the other end in goal, and Brewer earned the come-from-behind victory.

In addition to the seven goals, there were five fights in the game. Tre Potskin, and Gregory Johnson each fought twice for Team Brewer while Bradlee Fandrick and Ben Sowa fought twice for Team Bouck. There were countless big hits, and nice saves, and it was the exact type of game that would have made the late Rob Charney proud. Rob Charney loved scout hockey, and formed many strong friendships and memories at the rink. His presence is certainly missed.
