Silvertips blast Winterhawks
For the second time in less than week, the Portland Winterhawks fell to the red-hot Everett Silvertips, dropping an 8-2 decision in what was both sides first game of this weekend's Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament, hosted by the Tri-City Americans.

Portland - September 7, 2013 - he Portland Winterhawks continued preseason play with an 8-2 defeat to the Everett Silvertips Friday afternoon in a game played in Kennewick, WA.

Portland struck first with Dominic Turgeon scoring a power play goal 11:18 into the game to take a 1-0 lead.

Everett then scored three straight goals from Carson Stadnyk, Ivan Nikolishin and Tyler Sandhu as the Silvertips took a 3-1 lead into the second period.

Everett’s Waltteri Hopponen scored early in the second to give them a 4-1 advantage, and later in the frame Josh Winquist scored to give the Silvertips a 5-1 lead going into the third.

Everett added third period goals from Manraj Hayer, Braydon Low and Winquist to take an 8-1 lead, followed by Chase De Leo getting one back for the Hawks to make it an 8-2 final.

The Hawks, playing without nine veterans away at NHL training camps, were 1-2 on the power play and 1-1 on the penalty kill.

The team wraps up preseason play tomorrow at 3 p.m. when they take on the Seattle Thunderbirds in Kennewick. The regular season gets underway two weeks from today, when the Hawks host the Prince George Cougars at 7 p.m. at the Moda Center on a night when they’ll raise the WHL Championship banner to the rafters.
