Cougars have little trouble with depleted Oil Kings roster
With seven players away at NHL training camps and a depleted roster making the trip to B.C., the Edmonton Oil Kings were outgunned Friday night in a 5-1 preseason loss to the Prince George Cougars in WHL exhibition action.

Edmonton - September 7, 2013 - With seven players away at NHL training camps and a depleted roster making the trip to B.C., the Edmonton Oil Kings were outgunned Friday night in a 5-1 preseason loss to the Prince George Cougars.

The Oil Kings were outshot 40-23 in a penalty-filled contest that saw 110 total minutes in penalties doled out. Five of the six goals were scored on the power play.

Brad Morrison opened the scoring for the Cougars 6:19 into the first period, slipping a shot past Edmonton netminder Patrick Dea. Brett Roulston made it 2-0 early in the second period, and Chase Witala and Roulston both scored in the third to make it 4-0.

Cole Benson finally got the Oil Kings on the board with 5:15 to play in the third period, with the assists going to Mads Eller and Stephen Shmoorkoff. Tyler Mrkonjic finished the scoring with a last-minute goal for the Cougars.

Dea made 35 saves in a losing cause, while Brett Zarowny made 22 to pick up the win for Prince George.

The two teams will be back in action Saturday night in the second half of back-to-back games in Prince George. Game time is 8:00 p.m. MT.
