Lethbridge - October 24, 2013 - A week after sending veteran Forwards Jaimen Yakubowski and Sam McKechnie home to await a trade, the Lethbridge Hurricanes announced they have dealt them to Seattle.

Lethbridge Hurricanes General Manager, Brad Robson announced just before the Hurricanes game with Moose Jaw Thursday, they have sent both forwards to the Thunderbirds for 17 year old Forward Carter Folk, 19 year old Forward Riley Sheen and a third round pick in 2015.

Of Sheen and Folk, Robson says they are both good character kids and he’s pleased with the deal that was made. “Sheen is a skilled player with lots of energy, heart and desire. He should be a 50 point guy on our team this year.” Of Folk, Robson said “he is a big, strong kid who brings size to the wing. He’ll also fit in well with our 1995 thorough ‘98 age group.”

Sheen, a native of Edmonton has played in 12 games with Seattle this season and has 11 points (3G, 8A) with a plus-3 plus/minus rating and 14 PIM’s. Last season he had 40 points in 71 games. Folk, who is from Regina, has yet to register a point in 7 games played with the Thunderbirds. In 42 games with the Regina Pat Canadians of the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League last season Folk had 9 goals and 9 assists for 18 points with 107 PIM’s and a plus-3 plus/minus rating.

Yakubowski and McKechnie were both drafted by the Hurricanes in the 2009 Bantam Draft and both had their best seasons in 2012-2013. In 66 games last season, Yakubowski registered 50 points (32G, 18A) while McKechnie put up 43 points (26G, 17A) in 72 games. This season the two combined for just 4 points as the Hurricanes started the season 1-9-0-1.
